The Department of Communities is funding a number of training opportunities for staff from registered community housing providers as part of the Strengthening Social Housing – A strategy to build capacity of not for profit housing providers. Training will be delivered through the Queensland Community Housing Coalition.

Up to 45 places are available at one-day Providing Services to Clients with Complex Needs workshops in Mount Isa (18 October), Cairns (27 October) and Brisbane (15 November).

A Diploma of Social Housing is also available for 13 staff to undertake. The course requires participants to attend workshops/tutorials and have access to a social housing work environment

The diploma training will be delivered in Brisbane between January 2012 and December 2013. Additional funding will be available to assist with travel expenses.

An information pack, including the application form, has been sent to all registered community housing providers. Applications for the Diploma of Social Housing close on 14 October 2011.

For more information, or to request an application form for the one-day workshops, please contact Brooke Laidlaw, Social Housing Programs, Department of Communities, on 323 93110 or email brooke.laidlaw@communities.qld.gov.au.
